Origin and Processing

Caramel Orchard comes from the hills surrounding Ruronge in Burundi, where coffee cultivation supports numerous small farming families.

This lot brings together the harvests of 115 smallholder farmers, who have combined their cherries to produce a consistent, traceable coffee.

Among the participating growers is Ntungawnayo Sadoscale, identified as a leading farmer behind this lot.

The coffee grows at a documented altitude of 1,190 meters above sea level, in a landscape of hills and small agricultural plots.

The Red Bourbon variety is closely associated with Burundian coffee and is appreciated for its natural sweetness, lively fruit character, and clean cup profile.

After harvesting, the cherries are delivered to the Ruronge washing station, where they undergo carefully organised processing.

The method includes approximately one day of fermentation, followed by depulping and washing.

The coffee is then pre-dried in the shade for five days before moving to raised beds for approximately three to four weeks of slow sun drying.

This extended preparation encourages gradual moisture reduction and helps preserve the cup's clarity and balance.

The result is a delicate coffee combining crisp fruit, gentle caramel sweetness, and an exceptionally pleasant mouthfeel.
