Origin and Processing
Amber Grove comes from Nyamasheke District in Rwanda's Western Province, a mountainous coffee-growing area where many farming families cultivate coffee.
This lot represents the work of 51 smallholder farmers under the guidance of lead farmer Bosco Hakizmana.
The coffee cherries are delivered to Rwamatamu's Mbare Washing Station, which opened in 2023 to support coffee processing in the surrounding community.
Grown at approximately 1,800 meters above sea level, the coffee belongs to the Red Bourbon variety.
Processing begins with careful hand sorting to remove defects, followed by depulping and grading through water channels.
The coffee then undergoes 8 hours of fermentation in tanks before being thoroughly washed.
After washing, the parchment is spread across raised drying beds in the sun for approximately 22 days.
During drying, the coffee is regularly turned and inspected by hand to encourage even drying and remove remaining defects.
The result is a distinctive washed Red Bourbon combining nutty sweetness, dried fruit, cedar, cola-like aromatics, and citrus freshness.
