From the highlands of Nyamasheke in western Rwanda comes Musaza Lot 1, a specialty coffee that reflects the dedication of 51 smallholder farmers and the care involved in every stage of production.
Led by Bosco Hakizmana, the farmers grow Red Bourbon coffee at 1,800 metres above sea level. The cherries are processed at Rwamatamu's Mbare washing station.
Its flavour profile brings together notes of almond, cedar, cola, raisin and citrus, offering an intriguing combination of familiar flavours and distinctive nuances.
Origin and Processing
After careful hand sorting, the coffee cherries are depulped and fermented for eight hours. The coffee is then washed and slowly sun-dried on raised beds for approximately 22 days.
Throughout the drying process, the beans are regularly turned and inspected to ensure even drying and consistent quality.
This traditional and carefully managed approach highlights the character of the coffee's origin.
